My love of Swarovski Crystal
I have always been attracted to crystals, especially Swarovski Crystal. I worked as a casino dealer on cruise ships for many years traveling the world. I would strangely enough always find some new age store, with Swarovski Crystal pendulums or one to hang. San Juan in Puerto Rico in the old part of town has some great little stores with crystal jewelry as well as Buddha statues. Even in the north of Spain I found another store in their old town as well. All the cruise ships have the Swarovski Crystal section in their stores, from the adorable figurines as gifts to crystal jewelry; the packaging is wonderful as well. I would always buy them for gifts the little animal figurines, for friends leaving or birthdays. I always loved all the new and classic designs of the Swarovski Crystal Jewelry. Even the trendy hearts on black threads were quite striking.
I still have Swarovski Crystal in my Life
I live back in Cape Town now; we still have stores that carry Swarovski Crystal Jewelry and the adorable figurines. Near where I live near Builders Warehouse they have an electrical store that has these amazing from ceiling to floor Swarovski Crystal chandeliers. Sometimes if I need to add some light into my life I stop outside and gaze at these shimmering crystals as the other lights and the sun cause the amazing rainbow effect. It gives that magical experience; these chandeliers are more suited for hotels, lobbies, and I probably would like a smaller version one day in my house. I guess it is some girls want to be princesses, not quite on my agenda or wearing a tiara, I like the magic of crystal chandeliers. Different strokes different folks.
Swarovski Crystal Beads and my Crystal Rings
While I worked on cruise ships about 6 years ago I learned how to make Swarovski Crystal Bracelets, but for some reason I wanted to make crystal rings. I started off with the bigger crystal beads, my niece used to sell them at college; I would post them to her. I have to say myself those first ones were not really up to scratch. I perfected my crystal rings with smaller Swarovski Crystal Beads. I got wonderful ideas from little stores in Nice in France, one lady that sold the beads and had some of her rings in the window, they were a bit over the top. I bought a lot of the French Magazines and the Spanish beading magazines. I speak the languages but not up to reading the crystal ring patterns, it was mainly to get some ideas on shapes and sizes. The colors came naturally to me, I would mix bizarre colors together, but the effect would be simply amazing. I sold them in several outlets, craft like shops; they were very popular for quite a while. I found since last year that suddenly a lot of the shops closed down, I would put it in another same story. I tried etsy, but that did not work for me either, so I decided it was time to let go. I make one crystal ring now a month, I do free crystal ring patterns on instructables where you can download the PDF and make your own.
